Alfred Buckland built the first stages of Highwic in 1862. He lived there until his death in
1903; the house has since remained in the family until 1978, when it was taken over by the Auckland City Council and the Historic Places Trust. Highwic stands on a shelf of two acres in Epsom and over looks Newmarket.
