The pekapeka is New Zealand's only native mammal. Most people affectionately know of these tiny bats, although few of us get the chance to see them. Even rarer, is the wood rose. This tiny plant blooms flowers that look like they were carved of wood. It may have once been pollinated by kakapo but today it is completely dependent on the endangered pekapeka.
